Isaiah 40 is the HINGE of the entire book where Isaiah turns from God’s promise of judgement to God’s promise of mercy. It is the sun breaking through after a long, dark night. It is God’s word of hope to a people who were going to be sitting in the darkness of exile in Babylon for an extended timeout.
