Over the next few months, we are going to be worshiping and studying our way through the Apostle’s Creed. I believe that this study is going to be a corrective for us in a number of healthy ways.
For starters, I think this is going to provide a helpful corrective for that urge inside of us that wants to wage war over every minute detail of our doctrine. To be clear, it is important and helpful to draw lines around our doctrine. It is important to clearly specify what we believe about baptism, and church governance and a host of other secondary theological issues. But sometimes we can hold onto those secondary issues as if they were PRIMARY. Sometimes we draw a circle that is far too narrow with a line that is far too bold. Sometimes we look at those believers who disagree with us as if they are not our brothers and sisters in Christ.
